is 300 years old city. It was developed in 17th century by Sarkhel
Kanoji Angre the Naval Chief of Shivaji’s kingdom. |

Fort |

| Kolaba
fort, major water fort in Konkan. Shivaji Maharaj built this fort
in 1680...Nine hundred feet long and three hundred fifty feet wide.
Having two gates one from the shore another from the seaside. The
'Mahadarwaja' to the east is a special thing decorated with idols
of tigers, elephant, peacock etc. The temple of Ganesh, goddess with
eighteen hands, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva together makes. |

important thing is that there is sweet water well inside the fort
in middle of sea. Better to visit here only during the low tide. This
is major attraction of Alibag. One can easily walk during low tide
and visit this fort. |

Murud
lies 50kms from Alibag.Janjira, near Murud, is amongst the more
hardy forts that the Konkan coast is gilded with. The Arabian Sea
crashes relentlessly all around the fort, which lies 2 km into the
ocean . Murud was the 15-16th century capital of the Siddis of Janjira.
This indomitable fortress inspired the Maratha chieftain Shivaji
to launch several attacks, but the fort remained unconquerable to
the last. |
